Nicholas Paul's Will (1796)

In the Name of God Amen

I Nicholas Paul of the parish of Gulval in the County of Cornwall yeoman being at this time indisposed in body But of sound mind memory and understanding Thanks be given to Almighty God for the same And calling to mind my mortality Do make and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament viz

Firstly and principally I hope to resign my soul into the hands of my Almighty Creator and my Body to the earth in a sure hope of a resurrection to Eternal Life through Jesus Christ my Redeemer And as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give and bequeath the same in the following manner (That is to say)

2ndly I give and begueath unto my Daughter Jane Paul the sum of two hundred Pounds when and as soon as she shall happen to marry But my will is That as long as she lives with her brother Richard he shall pay her ten Pounds per Annum for and during the time she shall remain in single life I also give her all her Mother's Sister's wearing Apparel Also the Bed and Bedding whereon she now sleeps Also the little Mohogony (sic) Chest of Drawers with the little one that usually stands thereon

3ndly I give and begueath unto my son Nicholas Paul the like sum of two hundred Pounds The sum of fifty Pounds to be paid when and as soon as he be out of his apprenticeship and the remainder £150 one year afterward And his board and Maintenance till he is out of his time And I do nominate and appoint my brother-in-law Thomas Woodis and my friend William Harvey (note - of Chycarn, Trevarrack) of Gulval Trustees and Guardians over my said Son and Daughter to see that this my Will be properly fulfilled And that my Executor maintains and supports his brother with all necessaries during his apprenticeship

4ndly I give and begueath unto my Son Richard Paul All my Tenements Leases Goods Chattels and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever And I do make and ordain my said Son the whole and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament And the residuary Legatee to all my estate He paying thereout all my just debts Funerals Charge and the above legacies to his brother and sister
